April activites |
End of April brought world EME record success at OK1KIR. 432 MHz: Through already typical strong interference in our QTH we were able to work in JT65B on Sunday,Apr21 at 22:14 9G5EME -27/O # 73 as new DXCC and IJ field. During waiting for expedition 5H1DX on Monday, Apr22 made QSOs: 16:11 YL2GD -18/-18 #74; 16:54 ES3RF -21/-19 # 75 and 16:58 YO8RHI -21/-24 # 76. Tuesday, Apr23 after the return from 24GHz back to 70cm just at the beginning of planned schedule of 5H1DX expedition we unfortunately early recognized, that Bodo is closing short operation and goes QRT to pack all and leave for another QTH. 1296 MHz: Friday, Apr19 at 14:56 9G5EME -22/-19 # 137 and the 1st 9G-OK 23 cm QSO. Saturday, Apr20 while waiting for 5H1DX/3 we worked at 19:30 IK5EHI -20/-7 #138; 20:02 PE1LWT -13/-11 #139; 21:50 RA3LE -21/-14 #140; 22:13 PA3FXB -14/-10 and 23:15 VE3KRP -12/-12 #141. On Sunday, Apr21 at 17:06 YO2LEL -10/O; 17:14 IK5VLS -13/-13; 17:18 IK3COJ -12/-9 and 20:04 5H1DX/3 -20/O #142 as new DXCC and KI field. On Friday, Apr26 worked Bodo, 5H1DX from KI94 -22/O first at 00:20 (NC?) and for sure repeated at 00:40UT. 24048 MHz: After several unsuccessful JT4F tests with Rex, VK7MO (Rex every time decoded us, but just single tone and no decode on our side) we finally on Sunday, Apr21 decoded him -19, but sudden failure of TX prevented us to complete QSO. After TX part repair, in the next JT4F trial on Tuesday, Apr23 we finally succeeded and made at v 16:52 VK7MO -17/-18, #2(JT) as the new world distance record 16383 km (JT4) and QE field. The QSO was repeated in at 17:02 with reports -17/-14. Rex VK7MO used the larger solid prime focus dish 1.14m instead of previous only 77cm dish, the same DB6NT WG LNA and single SSPA delivering power about 8,5W at the feed. OK1KIR used prime focus dish 4.5m, DB6NT WG LNA and power ≈20W at the feed. This success confirmed the possibility of portable EME on 24GHz with a solid dish larger than 1m and with power at feed of about 20W (>10 W). However, when comparing it to 10GHz, it requires the Moon elevation at least about 15deg, very low mutual spread (under 100 Hz) a clear sky without clouds on both sides or resp., low water vapor content along the whole radio EME path (back and forth). It is really exciting ham-radio EME challenge. |

New WR on 24 GHz - digital modulation |
We made JT4F QSO on 24 GHz with Rex VK7MO today at 16:58 UTC at our Moon rise. Reports were -17/-18 and latter -17/-14 when the QSO was repeated at 17:00 UTC. Distance of 16 385 km is new distance World Record on 24 GHz. Rex uses his new 1.15 central fed dish and 10 W SSPA. He is using DB6NT LNA and he measured Moon noise 0.5 dB. We have Moon noise 2.45 dB, Sun noise 14.4 dB and ground noise 3.1 dB. Frequency of both station were locked to GPS, Rex used automatic correction of Doppler shift. |

5H1DX/3 on 23 cm and 9G5EME on 70 cm are in log |
We succeeded with Bodo 5H1DX/3 on 23 cm and with Atletico team pod 9G5EME on 70 cm. Both QSO were JT65B. We were able only decode Rex VK7MO on 24 GHz because of TRX failure on our side. It is realy pitty as the conditions were very good on both sides. |

European EME contest on 10 and 24 GHz |
Moon was close to apogeum during 10/24 GHz part of European EME contest. This cause bad readability of weak signals. In spite of this there were a lot of stations. Tonda made 27 QSO on 10 GHz and 2 QSOs on 24 GHz. |

The first VK-OK QSO on 24 GHz and new EME world 24 GHz distance record |
Alan VK3XPD confirmed our JT4F QSO (-16dB/-16dB) today at 07:13 UT. New EME world distance record on 24 GHz between QF22ND and JN79DW is 15931 km. It was the first VK-OK 24 GHz QSO. Alan uses 12 W TWT PA, that's output was feed by 3 m of flex waveguide to dish. QSO was completed without Doppler correction, reports would be even better with correction of Doppler shifts. Alan has Moon noise 1.1 dB, we measured Moon noise 2.4 dB a Earth noise 3.3 dB at -5°C and 90% humidity. |

Another test with Rex VK7MO |
We synchronize transverter to GPS in this 3 cm test, but because of some issue in our PC we cannot decode any JT4E signals. Rex decodes all our relations. |
